Selly Oak Lib Dems are supporting Fairtrade products.

Selly Oak councillors Robert Wright and Alistair Dow joined other Birmingham residents in the Edwardian Tearoom at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 6 March to eat Fairtrade bananas. This was part of a nationwide attempt to get into the Guiness Book of Records for the most Fairtrade bananas eaten in a day.

Birmingham became a Fairtrade City in 2005 after Birmingham City Council passed a Fairtrade resolution and committed to actively supporting Fairtrade. Many shops, cafés and restaurants across the city offer a Fairtrade option

Fairtrade pays farmers a guaranteed price for their produce. Their contracts allow the producers to have long term planning and sustainable production practices.
