Lib Dem councillors Dave Radcliffe and Alistair Dow are campaigning against Post Office closures.

The Government has started yet another round of Post Office closures. This has left people asking if their local Post Office is safe.

In the last eight years fifty-five post Offices in Birmingham have closed. In March of next year, the Government are set to close a further 2,500 Post Offices nationwide. Birmingham Postmasters fear that this could result in the closure of a further ten local Post Offices.

We have already lost too many Post Offices in the local area. These closures were against the wishes of the community who resisted the closure programme.

Local Post Offices that have closed since 2002 include:

  • Bournville Post Office, Sycamore Road

  • Queensbridge Post Office, Kings Heath High Street

  • Raddlebarn Road Post Office

  • Stirchley Post Office, Pershore Road

  • Weoley Avenue Post Office

  • Yarningdale Road Post Office

Local Liberal Democrats led by Councillor Dave Radcliffe are opposing any more local Post Office closures:

"Post Offices are a valued and well used local facility. They provide a friendly and efficient service and should not be closed against the wishes of local people."

The Liberal Democrats have launched a petition against the closure plans. You can sign it online at http://www.libdems.org.uk/commerce/issues/postoffice.html
