Liberal Democrats in Selly Oak have welcomed the launch of the Birmingham Cutting CO2 campaign.

Liberal Democrats in Selly Oak have welcomed the launch of the Birmingham Cutting CO2 campaign to increase awareness in Birmingham of the effects of climate change and to encourage everyone around the city to use less energy, cutting their CO2 emissions.

Every year, Birmingham produces 6.9million tonnes of CO2 (carbon dioxide) or 19,000 tonnes a day. The Birmingham Cutting CO2 campaign has a website at www.birminghamcuttingco2.org with a built-in carbon calculator to help people reduce their individual CO2 and, in turn, the city's emissions.

"This campaign is a quick and easy way for Birmingham residents to pledge their commitment to tackling climate change by making some simple changes in their behaviour which will cut CO2 and help them save money in the long run," said Selly Oak councillor Dave Radcliffe.

The Birmingham Cutting CO2 campaign was launched in the Bullring earlier today by the Birmingham Strategic Partnership (BSP) at the Business in the Community Climate Change Exhibition, which will run from 16 to 29 July 2007 outside Selfridges. Free energy saving kits (including an energy saving lightbulb and a save-a-flush device) will be available to those who pledge their commitment at the exhibition.
