Cllr Robert Wright has welcomed the decision to continue the funding of two successful community based projects in Selly Oak ward for a further twelve months using money from the Council's Community Chest initiative.

"I am pleased that the area's two Environmental Wardens have been retained for a further year. They have provided and excellent service arranging litter picks and other clean up activities."

"The wardens also undertake a valuable role in arranging for litter hit squads and graffiti clean up teams to clear and clean up areas where dumped rubbish and graffiti is a problem"

"Selly Oak ward is a cleaner area because of the commitment and dedication of the area's Environmental Wardens."

£6,000 was also allocated to the continuation of the benefits take up campaign for the over 60's.

"The project aims to contact a further 200 pensioners who are under claiming the benefits they are entitled to".

"This is an important project and will help and assist pensioners to maximise their rightful benefit entitlement. It has my wholehearted support."

Funding of £2000 was also agreed to clear an overgrown drying area behind the maisonettes in Fladbury Crescent so that it can be used as a children's play area.

"This is a welcome development it will clean up the area and more importantly provide a safe play area for local children"
