Liz Lynne MEP (second from right) has successfully campaigned against age discrimination.

West Midlands Liberal Democrat MEP Liz Lynne has welcomed the age discrimination legislation which came into force at the beginning of October 2006. She was responsible for getting age included in the European Employment Directive 2000 which forms the basis of the new UK law.

Celebrating the end of the "over-50 employment scrap heap", Liz commented: "My hope is that this will inspire many of the older people who have experienced the scrap heap to make the most of their talents and abilities and feel they can get out there again and prove how much they have to offer."

Liz pointed out that the legislation is good for younger people too, as they can no longer be passed over for promotion simply because of their age.
